We specialize in the McGill Method approach for back pain reduction and to enhance athletic performance.
The McGill Method was developed by world renowned spine expert Professor Stuart McGill, with over 32 years of scientific research on the lumbar spine. His laboratory and experimental research clinic investigated issues related to the causal mechanisms of back pain, how to rehabilitate back-pained people and enhance both injury resilience and performance.
His work produced over 245 peer-reviewed scientific journal papers. He has published several books including Ultimate Back Fitness and Performance, Back Mechanic: The Step-by-step McGill Method to fix back pain, Gift of Injury: The strength athlete’s guide to recovering from back injury to winning again, and the textbook Low Back Disorders: Evidence-Based Prevention and Rehabilitation.

The 3-hour assessment starts with a detailed history of your back troubles. Most clinicians are far too cavalier with this important first step to understanding not only your back troubles, but also potential injury mechanisms and pain triggers.
All back pain has a specific cause. To find yours, we will next perform a thorough assessment to discover what is causing your troubles, specifically looking at pain provoking motions, postures, and loads.
Lastly, I will coach you through your unique set of movement tools, exercises, and relaxation techniques based on the results of your assessment. This will not be your typical healthcare visit!

"The assessment itself made a deep impression on me. To be looked at as a whole person and to be really seen and heard by a professional in the mediacal field was life changing in and of itself. Once Dr. Ferguson understood who I was and how my body was, he proceeded to examine me in a sensitive way that gave him information at the same time that it caused no real discomfort for me. He provided exercises that I was able to do, suggested tools that could help me and it was the best experience I ever had with a doctor. "

"It's been 3 weeks since I underwent Mc Gill's assessment by Joe. My pain pre treatment was at a level 3, but at the moment I feel no pain. I feel hopeful about the future now that I feel more empowered about my back pain management. I am extremely grateful to Joe for his careful attention to detail in assessment and development of treatment plan. I'd definitely recommend others who are experiencing pain to give it a try."
